The West Kirk

ServicesThe West Kirk

We worship each week on Sunday mornings with Communion Services held on the first Sundays of March, June and October. Informal Communion Services take place on two or three Sundays each year. Special Services are held at Easter, Harvest, Remembrance Sunday and Christmas time. It is a West Kirk tradition that the Kirk Session, the Choir, the Sunday School and Guiding each conduct worship at least once a year.

The choir sings weekly, either an anthem or a new hymn in which they invite the congregation to join.  We use CH4 as our main hymn book but regularly draw from other sources. We have a rota of members who read the lessons each week.

The Sunday School meet before the main service in the hall and join the congregation towards the end for the last section of the service.

Tea is served after worship every Sunday and once a month, baked potato lunches are provided where the congregation can enjoy fellowship, a chat and put the world to rights.

The Church and the Community

The Church is a member of “Dumbarton Churches Together” and takes part in events involving all the Christian faith groups in the town. The Church has a representative on the local Christian Aid committee. A team is organised to assist along with other local groups in the running of the Tea Bar at the Vale of Leven Hospital.
